The book brings together the work of Roberto Roversi (1923–2012), one of the most distinctive and uncompromising figures in twentieth-century Italian literature. Poet, bookseller, editor, journalist, playwright, and lyricist, Roversi placed literature at the heart of historical and political engagement, combining documentary realism, social criticism, and radical formal experimentation. Born in Bologna and shaped by Fascism, World War II, and the Resistance, Roversi emerged from the extraordinary generation that transformed Italian culture after the war. Together with Pier Paolo Pasolini and Francesco Leonetti, he founded the influential literary journal Officina, which sought new ways for literature to confront the historical and social realities of postwar Italy. His poetry turns history into a living and contested terrain.
